Summary :
”Dr. Akita started plastic surgical training program at Nagasaki University Hospital. He then proceeded to Graduate School of Nagasaki University (four-year, PhD course), specializing in plastic and reconstructive surgery from 1990 to 1994. In 1993, he further started research fellowship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) under supervision of Dr. Shlomo Melmed, M.D. on a cytokine expression and its regulation in vivo by using a transgenic animal model until 1996. In 1996, after returning to Nagasaki University as a staff plastic surgeon, he also set-up his laboratory investigating craniofacial anomaly, flap physiology, cutaneous oncogenesis and wound healing. Clinically he became a board-certified plastic surgeon in 1999 and specializing in all aspects of plastic surgery and sub-specializing in craniofacial surgery, burn and intractable wound coverage and reconstruction. He has published more than 42 English peer-reviewed manuscripts including 5 Wound Repair and Regeneration, 2 Journal of Clinical Investigation. He is currently a trustee of Japanese Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and of Japanese Society for Wound Healing. Also, he involves in various committee memberships such as a member of the trustee’s screening committee, scientific committee, a committee for affairs of affiliated academic societies and a member of the investigating future plan committee and will be a publication committee member of journal “Wound Repair and Regeneration” from 2008.
